Artist Bio – DoubleStop
DoubleStop is a collaboration between singer Charles Dolph and bassist Ethan Philion. Dolph and Philion met while studying at Oberlin Conservatory in 2010 and have been performing together regularly in a variety of formats for the past four years. They supplement a rich repertoire of originals and jazz standards with imaginative arrangements of works by artists ranging from Randy Newman to Bach, to The Righteous Brothers.
Although only in their mid-twenties, Dolph and Philion’s credentials are those of seasoned performers. Dolph was a featured soloist from 2009 to 2013 with the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, and since moving to DC in June of 2014 works as a regular sub for DC legend Sharon Clark and holds a weekly gig at Eddie V’s. Philion holds two Downbeat Magazine Awards, participated in the 2015 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency, and was selected as a finalist for the upcoming 2015 International Society of Bassists Jazz Competition. They’ve performed and collaborated with artists including The Punch Brothers, Jamey Haddad, Rufus Reid, Sun Speak, and more.
The duo will be joined at Drift on 7th February 21 , by drummer Tyler Leak.
